Pet Grooming

Pet grooming is more than just styling your poodle. For any pet owner, who has a pet with a coat, grooming your pet regularly either by yourself or professionally keeps their healthy, frees them of any parasites, and just plain makes them look better. Also, it keeps shedding under control.

Pet grooming can be a great way for owners and animals to bond. At least each week, calmly get your pet to lie down and run a comb through their hair. At first, reassure them with a calm voice, and later they begin to enjoy it as they would petting. Depending on whether you have a dog or a cat (or a rabbit, guinea pig, or any furred animal) you’ll need to select the right comb. Stores carry both standard grooming combs and fine combs for picking out fleas and other parasites.

Pet grooming also consists of shampooing their hair at times. Dogs may be a bit more willing to do this than cats, so consider a professional animal salon if you don’t want soap subs all over your house and a missing wet kitty, who probably has stopped trusting you, in hiding. There are shampoos and conditioners made specifically for pets. Use these, rather than your own products, as they are made for animals’ coats and they are safe for their skin.

Finally, although it can be difficult, don’t forget your animal’s nails and claws. You can find a couple of different clippers, made for each type of pet. If you’re willing to spend a bit more money, you can also purchase a grinder kit, which hones the nail rather than cutting straight through it.
