Pet Teeth Cleaning

Even though they were once wild animals and it may not seem like they ever need it, your domestic animals need pet teeth cleaning service done for them regularly. Depending on the size of your animal, you may not need this until your pet reaches its senior years. However, for cats and small breeds of dogs, it’s a good idea to take a look at their teeth at around two years.

Unlike going to your dentist, pet teeth cleaning involves a few more steps. To begin with, your pet will have to go under anesthesia while getting his or her teeth cleaned. The reason for this is obvious – animals can’t simply be told to keep their mouths’ open. Due to this, your pet will need preliminary blood work to ensure that any medicine administered won’t hurt them and will also be effective.

Once they’re under, the next step in pet teeth cleaning is a simple examination. The oral hygienist or vet will make sure all their teeth are healthy, just as a dentists would with us. If everything looks all right, the dental technician will begin cleaning all the tarter off your pet’s plaque. After this, they’ll polish the teeth and may provide a sealing medicine to help prevent infections.

Following your appointment, you may need to keep your pet on a regular treatment of teeth sealing or medicine. You may also need to give them a set of antibiotics for a period after to prevent any infections. As your pet gets older, consider changing their food to a feed designed for healthy teeth.
